IV ECOTOPY WORKSHOP
Renewable Energies, Bioclimatism and Ecologic Vehicles
BIOCULTURA 2001 MADRID
Auditory C next to the CRISTAL PAVILLION
From the 1st to the 2nd of November
We wish to present the IV ECOTOPY Workshop edition within
the framework of BIOCULTURE 2001 in Madrid. We come out for the first time from
our refuge in the Gata Ranges (Caceres), where the previous ECOTOPY Workshops
were held, in order to join the BIOCULTURE platform in Madrid.
This step is an important challenge for the ECOTOPY Foundation, it means exposing to the greater public our local project from the Gata Ranges, after 20 years of gestation and development.
The fact of holding this Workshop in BIOCULTURE represents an added satisfaction. BIOCULTURE is a meeting place for many people interested in new living alternatives; it is a fair with a long tradition of debate of the new ecological and social paradigms. We wish to debate, together with leading experts, the future energetic and environmental model for this world, the world model in which we wish to live and hand over to our children.
We hope to confirm the participation of the experts and personalities mentioned in the ECOTOPY 2001 Program. We wish to thank them for their support and trust. We also grateful to the Healthy Life Association, as organisers of BIOCULTURE 2001, for allowing us to present our Project in this Fair.
We believe that the world is going through a dramatic stage, specially after the arrival of Bush to the White House. The energetic paradigm of "More Wood!", in the purest Groucho Marx style, needed to maintain the American Life Style is totally unsustainable. The United States, with their attitude of blocking the Kyoto Protocol, have broken the world agreement on Global Climate Change. Given this irresponsible aggression to the life supporting systems on earth, only the European Union can propose a discourse of strength and wise environmental policies to wrestle the American giant.
In this regard, the EC TAKE OFF Campaign aims to push a model of development of renewable energies, energy savings, and energy efficiency, in order to arrive at a 12% of European energy consumption coming from renewable sources by the year 2010. In contrast with the old known schemes, new adaptations have appeared in order to face urban, energetic and environmental needs. The concept of bioclimatism applied to buildings, the bioregionalist concept of energetic island 100% renewable, the movement of ecovillages and ecological cities, and applications of renewable energies in Southern Countries, all indicate that something is changing in the scene of traditional ways of living and of generating energy.
In this workshop we will debate these issues which are vital for our lives and for the lives of tomorrow.
We will be waiting for you in BIOCULTURE, home of
ECOTOPIA for the first time!.
